It confirms what I thought. One needs to stay up in the mountains. Otherwise it becomes really tedious.

As to french Alps, it depends where. In Aravis, great crags are about 45 - 60 min away from the parking. Same in les Ecrins (La Berarde, Ailefroide). But I agree when it comes to Chamonix.

The point of quick access is that it's possible to go and climb after work for ex. or when the weather is a bit unsteady.
