Predovšetkým chcem poďakovať Andrzejovi Marciszovi za jeho podrobnú a miestami aj kritickú analýzu a recenziu nielen druhého dielu nášho sprievodcu, ale aj jeho prvej časti od Rudawa Janowica v časopise Tatry. Vďaka ním sme upravili aj niektoré nepresnosti najmä okolo Malého Mlynára, pri reedícii prvého dielu, ktorý práve znovu vyšiel. Hoci fotografiu SZ steny Malého Mlynára vlastníme, bohužiaľ ju nemôžeme použiť kvôli nevyhovujúcemu uhlu pohľadu. Keďže druhá časť vyšla vo vyššom náklade, bolo potrebné znovu dotlačiť aj prvý diel. Rozhodli sme sa doň pridať nielen nové cesty ale aj opraviť isté chyby, farebne prekresliť schémy ciest a vymeniť niektoré fotografie stien, ktoré pôsobili plocho. Musím naozaj zdôrazniť, že ambíciou nášho sprievodcu nebolo vytvorenie monografie ako u Puškáša, WHP, resp. WC. Preto sa sprievodca nevenuje krížovým odkazom na zdroje, ani nemá register. Neuvádzame ani mená z prvých napr. zimných či voľných prelezení. Venujeme sa čisto praktickým informáciám. Zverejnenie fotografií napr. zostupov by bolo určite prínosné. Neúmerne by to však zvýšilo nielen rozsah knihy, ale aj náklady na jej vydanie a tým pádom aj konečnú cenu. Niektoré ďalšie informácie pri výbere cesty je naozaj možno doplniť webovým sprievodcom, ktorý je zadarmo a aj naďalej bude. Vrelo to odporúčam aj ja. Systém knižného sprievodcu však dovoľuje vytvorenie výberu ďalších neuverejnených stien. Výber publikovaných stien nebol na základe osobných preferencií autorov. V oboch dieloch sme sa sústredili na pokrytie populárnych stien pre skalných lezcov, ale aj horolezcov všetkých výkonnostných stupňov, a to s možnosťou voľby letných aj zimných ciest včítane severných častí Tatier. Tento výber a rozsah publikácie je však limitovaný aj našimi ekonomickými možnosťami. Zvažovali sme pridať do knihy aj Malý Kežmarský štít, ako veľmi populárnu stenu Tatier, no nakoľko vyšla nedávno kompletná monografia tejto steny od P. Jackoviča, zdalo sa nám zbytočné zaberať priestor iným stenám.
Súhlasím s recenzentom, že by bolo iste prínosom spracovať schémy aj viacerých klasických ciest. Sám mám prelezené mnoho z týchto ciest, no urobiť kvalitný nákres je naozaj obtiažne. Chce to popreliezať cesty nanovo, čo som v určitých prípadoch aj urobil, no takýto rozsah ciest to proste neumožňuje. Čo sa týka starších schém, hľadali sme v literatúre pokiaľ možno zdroje od samotných prvovýstupcov. Niekoľkokrát sme sa stretli aj so situáciou, že z toho istého výstupu existuje viacero schém, samozrejme s rôznym ohodnotením. Mnoho duplikátov sa od originálnych schém dosť odlišuje. Ďalšími autormi boli prekresľované, a často veru nie veľmi presne, resp. dotvárané podľa vlastnej obrazotvornosti. V nákresoch chýbajú skoby, o ktorých existencii vedia aj samotní autori. Ako istenie s obmedzenou trvácnosťou sa ich rozhodli zámerne neuvádzať. V schémach ciest sú uvedené len trvalé fixné istiace body a aj keď sú v mnohých cestách na stanovišti aj po dva borháky, kvôli prehľadnosti je znázornený len jeden. Takisto jednotlivé dĺžky ako subjektívna záležitosť nie sú uvádzané v metroch. Horský sprievodca nemôže mať atribúty sprievodcu po skalkách. Preto je potrebné do horských ciest patričné horolezecké vybavenie. Klasifikácia výstupov vychádza zo známych publikovaných údajov od prvovýstupcov či neskorších a voľných prelezov. Je všeobecne známe, že klasifikácia je neobyčajne subjektívna. Preto sa môžu uverejnené údaje líšiť o pol stupňa až stupeň, čo je treba mať na zreteli pri výbere výstupu najmä u menej lezených ciest. Dúfajúc v upresnenie spomínaných informácií, očakávali sme tvrdšiu kritiku aj od samotných lezcov. Sme preto spomínanému A. Marciszovi a Janowicovi neskonale vďační. Na záver by som rád poznamenal: veľkou devízou je, že sprievodca je v digitálnej podobe, korekcie sú pomerne ľahko možné. Tento publikačný počin môže byť základom, z ktorého môžu ťažiť nielen lezci ale aj tvorcovia sprievodcovskej literatúry.

First of all, I would like to thank to Andrzej Marcisz for his thorough and partially critical review that along with the 2nd volume of our guidebook and to Rudaw Janowic of the 1st one as well. Thanks to his comments we were able to correct some errors concerning Malý Mlynár in the recently published second edition of the first volume (High Tatras - western part guidebook). Even though we have the photo of Malý Mlynár's NW face, we cannot use it due to inconvenient viewpoint angle. As the second volume edition size was bigger, it was also necessary to reprint the first volume. Along with that we decided to make some changes: not only we added new routes, we also corrected several mistakes, redrew the topos in colour and replaced some photos of faces that appeared two-dimensional. I would like to stress out that it was not our ambition to write a monograph of Puškáš, WHP, or WC's kind. Therefore, there are no cross-references or source register in the guidebook, nor do we provide the list of first winter ascents or free climbs. Instead of that we are concerned with practical information. The publishing of “descent routes” photos would certainly be beneficial, but the growing extent of the guidebook would also increase publisher's expenses and the final price. One can easily supplement the lack of information by using our web guide, which is and still will be accessible for free. The system of guidebook is set such a way that the unpublished selections may occur later. We did not select the faces we described according to our own preferences. On contrary, we wanted to cover the mountains mostly popular among rock climbers and all sorts of mountaineers. We provided them with the list of summer and winter ascents including northern areas of High Tatras. However, this publication is limited by our financial sources. As for the very popular north face of Malý Kežmarský štít, we were planning to add this mountain into the selection, but assuming there was a monograph on its north face recently published by P. Jackovič, we preferred others instead. I agree with reviewer that it would be beneficial to elaborate the topos of number of classical routes. I have personally climbed many of those, however it is rather difficult to draw their exact topos. It would require to climb the routes once again (which I partially did), but it is out of question to accomplish such an high amount of routes in short time. Concerning the older topos: when possible, we relied on the sources containing the description from first ascenders. Quite often we encountered the problem of different topos and different difficulty grades relating to the same ascent. Many copies differed from the originals. They were often redrawn quite imprecisely. Being aware of their existence there are however pitons missing in the topos. Considering those only temporary anchors, we did not mark them in the topos. There are only permanent anchors given in the topos. There may be even two bolts on belay stations but in order the portray the route well-arranged, we marked only one. Each pitch (being highly subjective matter) was not given an exact value in meters. Mountain guidebook can not have the same features as rock climbing guides. Therefore every reader of this guidebook should be aware what equipment is neccessary in mountains. Based upon the information published by first ascenders (or free climbs), given difficulty grades are highly subjective matter. The difficulty may differ in half a grade or even one. One should keep this in mind when choosing the less frequent routes. Hoping for clarification of information we expected rather harsh critique from the ranks of climbers. We are therefore truly thankful to A. Marcisz and R. Janowic for his comments.
Finally, I would like to mention an advantage of the guidebook based upon internet version where all sorts of corrections can be easily performed. Such a publication system can become essential not only for climbers but even for writers of guidebook literature.
