"PUTIN VISITS ARKAIM MUSEUM-RESERVE IN CHELYABINSK REGION

CHELYABINSK, May 16 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the Arkaim historical and landscape museum-reserve during his routine trip to the Chelyabinsk region (Southern Urals) on Monday.
Arkaim is Russia's only reserve which protects and examines both natural systems and historical monuments. It was set up in 1991 following the discovery of a unique fortified settlement of the Bronze Age in the Arkaim valley in 1987.
The complex comprises an archeological and ethnographic museum and a historical open-air park. The construction of the Man and Nature museum is currently underway. All in all, there are some 400 archeological centers of different epochs on Arkaim's territory.
The cultural center includes fortifications, necropoleis, production grounds and mines.
Vladimir Putin attended the Man and Nature museum, a reconstructed settlement of the Stone Age, the museum of ancient crafts and an excavation site.
The President saw models of ancient Indo-European houses made of stone and wood and articles made of stone, ceramics, bronze and metal which had been unearthed by archeologists.
Moreover, he saw a kiln, heating ovens, wall fireplaces and wells built some 5,000 years ago."
